My happy place is getting out and about into beautiful scenery and trying to take creative images that reflects the beauty and magnificence of these locations.
These blog are intended to share my trips out, exploring locations and the images I am trying to create. Not all images will be portfolio worthy, but hopefully there will be some nice keepers along the way. Above all this will reflect the enjoyment of getting out into the countryside and the pleasure this brings.
Llanddwyn Island - Taking the popular shot.
Although I have visited Llanddwyn Island a few times over recent years, I have only taken this classic and overshot image once before. The fact that everyone tries to take this shot has been off putting, but the light was so lovely and Myself and Toby were quire happy just chilling out that I decided to have another go. I am glad that I did.
Waun Y Llyn Country Park - A Local Shoot
The previous weekend I had been over to the Peak District to capture the colour of the heather. However, I do have a fantastic location for heather and landscape photography at the back of my house, Waun Y Llyn Country Park.
A Return to Over Owler Tor
I had visited Over Owler Tor last year, but unfortunately I didn’t get the best of the amazing heather. I had also noticed that there were so many parts of this area to explore, that I had not given myself enough time. So this time I decided to make an earlier start and this time my mate Andy Green joined me.
Porth Y Cychod. A little gem of a place.
I had not had to may holidays this year for one reason or another so I took this week off. I had not explored much of the Llyn Peninsula and in my search h for possible locations Porth Y Cychod came to my attention.
The Lone Tree at Malham
I had always wanted to visit North Yorshire to explore locations. It was a very dull and rainy day, so I resigned myself to treating this trip as a recce even before I left.
Exploring St Cwyfan’s Church in the Sea & Aberffraw
St Cwyfan’s Church is a location I love exploring and returning to. On this occasion I went onto the little island with the church to see if there were any compositions I could find.
The Bluebells of Plas Power Woods
Driving to work I noticed that the Bluebells were starting to come out in bloom. I knew a great location to see the bluebells was Plas Power Woods, so my fiancée, Bev and our loopy hound, Toby, took a trip out.
A Family Day Out at Treaddur Bay
My fiancée, Bev, had her sister, Diane, came and visited us, so we thought we would make a family day of it and invited my Dad along.
We found a lovely little bay to explore, have a picnic and looks for some compositions for sunset.
Waiting for Clouds at Ynys Y Fydlyn
This was a trip out with Toby and my mate, Andy Green, who had never been to Ynys Y Fydlyn before. We were waiting for some high cloud to catch the sunset. We did get some lovely colour in the clouds eventually.
Watching Waves at Porth-Y-Post
A combination of a nice day out with Bev, a picnic with a gorgeous view, a scamper along the coastal paths with Toby, finished off with a watching the waves at sunset.
A Return to Ynys Llanddwyn
Because of the variety of shots to be had at Ynys Llanddwyn, it’s alway nice to return. The sea was still rough after Storm Franklin and wind was still strong. As a result Toby and I were more than a little sandblasted.
Here Comes The Storm at Cable Bay
The weather forecast was supposed to a bit on the wild side with the approach of Storm Malik. I decided that Bev (fiancee), Toby (fury four legged water magnet) should head to the coast to try and get some stormy sea action. Whilst it was certainly wet and windy, dark and moody it wasn’t the dramatic seas I had hoped for, but it was still great to have play with some photography.
Everyone’s a Critic at Llyn y Gader
A chance to get out with Andy Green and Toby to do a bit of photography. The original intention was to head to the coast and I wanted to experiment with some ICM (Intentional Camera Movement). However, tide times were against us, so we decided to head out to Snowdonia. We hadn’t been to Llyn y Gader for a few years, so a return was well overdue.
The Tangled Wood at Cors y Sarnau Nature Reserve
Happy New Year and I wish you all the very best for the coming year. These are, as most that appear in this blog, just recce images of that will hopefully serve as reference for a return visit under more optimal conditions.
Feeling Soggy at Coed Felinryhd & Llennyrch Celtic Rainforest
Having spent number of days indoors at home over the Christmas period, I thought it was “wise” to try and get out with Toby and for a bit of fresh air.
A Warm Sunny Day in December at Newborough Beach
I could not believe we had such wonderful weather for our trip the Newborough Beach on Anglesey. Maybe not ideal for Landscape Photography because of the clear skies and the calm seas.
Into the Woods at Padley Gorge
I had a few days I had to use up before Christmas, so on the recommendation of a friend at work, Craig Jones, I decided on a trip across to Padley Gorge in the Peak District.
“Getting Lost” around the Clwyd Mountain Range
Technically we didn’t get lost. It’s a term we use to jump in the car and drive anywhere, exploring local lanes and see where they come out. From a landscape photography perspective its great for discovering new locations to shoot.
A Walk to Rhaeadr Fawr (Aber Falls)
I had been meaning to visit Rhaeadr Fawr (Aber Falls) for quite some time, especially if there was a hope of some autumnal colour. Over the past couple of days there had been quite a bit of rain so the chances of the waterfall being full was quite high.
Spectacular Splash at the “Roman Bridge” in Penmancho
Although a well photographed location by many others, this was my first visit to The Roman Bridge at Penmancho. It was a grey, rainy day but I was determined to get out and explore. My main goal was to look for some autumnal colour. I had seen many photographs of this location and thought this may prove a good opportunity. However, my visit wasn’t without incident!
