My happy place is getting out and about into beautiful scenery and trying to take creative images that reflects the beauty and magnificence of these locations.
These blog are intended to share my trips out, exploring locations and the images I am trying to create. Not all images will be portfolio worthy, but hopefully there will be some nice keepers along the way. Above all this will reflect the enjoyment of getting out into the countryside and the pleasure this brings.
Porth Y Post
Just Toby and myself on this trip out this time. We were exploring all the bays in the Treaddur area and finally we settled on an old favourite at Porth Y Post. There was a slither of light, but nothing too exceptional and nothing that caught the foreground. Again, no portfolio images, but that’s OK! You’ve got to be out there to get those portfolio images! Also, Toby was a terrific companion and had a great time running and exploring!
Exploring Blea Tarn
A week off from work and we decided to have a trip out to the Lake District. Because of the distance from where we are, this does not happen too often. But we set off early as we wanted to have a little explore on our journey up. Beautiful scenery but we had decided that our main aim was to head to Blea Tarn.
A Surprise View at Over Owler Tor
OK, I have an admission to confess. I was inspired by an excellent Nigel Danson YouTube video to visit Over Owler Tor in the Peak District. The Peak District is an area that I have not explored too much in the past but it is a location that I will definitely be returning to.
Southstack Lighthouse from Northstack
The curse of landscape photography is clear blue skies. However, it did make for a lovely walk along the coastal path from Southstack towards Northstack. I had wanted to do this walk to try and find a less photographed view of Southstack. Thankfully the heather was all about to bloom and the broom bushes popped under the the clear blue sky.
Swirling Seas at Penmon Point Lighthouse
My friend, Andy and I had turned up to Penmon Point Lighthouse in order to try and capture some of the bioluminescence that occurs there sometimes. We knew it was going to be a gamble that we would get this because the factors like wind, temperature etc has to be right. also with the limited time we had, it was good to have a plan B.
So I decided to walk further along the shore for this composition to try and capture some wave movement with the lighthouse and Puffin Island on the horizon. For me, this was an enjoyable experience and I really love this location.
Fire in the Sky at Llanberis Pass
There have been many occasion when travelling down the Llanberis Pass when I thought that the lone Hawthorn trees might make for an interesting image. Thankfully my friend, Andy, and I were fortunate with fantastic light that lit up the clouds.
Sunset at Ynys y Fydlyn
I decided, with my faithful-ish four legged friend, Toby, to explore the coastal path from the bay at Ynys y Fydlyn and around the headland until opposite the Skerries. On the way back I chose a location I had passed as I really wanted to capture some of the golden light on the cliffs and get a little bit of the Skerries in the background.
It was a lovely evening and we both had a great walk.
Birthday at Rhoscolyn
A lovely location to chill and relax on my Birthday.
When I was born, my Dad rushed to the hospital and didn’t have a chance to buy any flowers. So he stopped and picked a handful of Broom as my Mum always commented on the flower on their travels. Since then, it’s been known as the flower associated with my Birth.
Ogwen Valley & Tryfan
It was lovely to catch up with my mate Andy for a spot of photography in Snowdonia. We first ventured on a route I had never been on before, around Capel Curig.
This was in the early afternoon and the light wasn’t that great, therefore the photos that I had taken were not brilliant.
Porth Dafarch
This was my first trip out, in about three months. I was going stare crazy and on the verge of becoming a homicidal maniac. Those in my social bubble were in very serious danger for their lives.
Therefore I was booted out on my own to find a bit of headspace. I ended up at Porth Dafarch, where to my pleasure and surprise, I had the place to myself.
Llandegla
Lockdown. A necessary evil in these current times and completely understandable.
My interpretation of the rules was that you could travel locally for exercise.
But to be safer than sorry, I decided on a sunrise shoot at a roadside location not far from where I live.
